The city of Clarksville is found in the U.S. State of Tennessee. It ranks as the 5th largest city in Tennessee, just after the cities of Memphis, Chattanooga, Nashville and Knoxville. Clarksville is also the seat of government of Montgomery County. Geographically, Clarksville has a total of 94.9 square miles of land area, with only 0.7 square miles of water. The city is situated in the Highland Rim’s northwestern edge. The Highland Rim borders the Nashville Basin, just northwest of the city of Nashville. In the Clarksville, TN-KY metropolitan statistical area (MSA), consisting of counties in Kentucky (Trigg and Christian), and Tennessee (Stewart and Montgomery), the city is considered a principal one. It is also noted that the said MSA is the 2nd fastest growing area in the United States.
The city of Clarksville is known by many nicknames. It was named the “Clarks- Vegas”, “Gateway to the New South”, the “Queen City”, the “Queen of the Cumberland” and recently, “Tennessee’s Top Spot” which the city has adopted for the new branding campaign of its tourism. However, the main driver of the economy is its industrial employers. Fort Campbell is the largest employer in Clarksville. The Fort Campbell is a military reservation facility, which is the home of the United States 101st Airborne Division as well as the 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment. It is located between the cities of Clarksville, Tennessee and Hopkinsville, Kentucky. The city’s economy can be credited to the presence of Fort Campbell and Austin Peay State University. The Army base of Fort Campbell is not just home to the agents and their family, but it also has other facilities such as the Sabalauski Air Assault School, SSG John W.
